The hostel front desk guy in Lisbon ruined my whole budget plan with one sentence
I was in Lisbon for 5 nights last month and had my whole trip mapped out on a spreadsheet, down to the 1.50 euro pastries I was gonna eat for breakfast. The guy working the front desk watched me pull out my phone to check bus times for the third time in ten minutes and just said, 'You know the 28 tram costs the same as a coffee, right?' I had been hoarding coins for Ubers because I was scared of getting lost on public transit. Dropped 2.80 euro on a 24 hour transit card after that and saw half the city for less than a sandwich back home. How do you all figure out when the cheap option is actually fine and when it's a trap?
Hold on, a 24 hour transit card for 2.80 euro? That is less than one single ride where I live. I cannot get over the fact that you were out here paying for Ubers out of fear while a whole day of trains and trams sat there for the price of a coffee. The tram alone is like a rolling tour bus and you skipped it to sit in traffic. That front desk guy did you a solid and probably saved you a hundred bucks. I get the fear part but man, that math hurts to read.
