The time my hostel booking fell through in Barcelona at 11 PM

I got to my hostel in Barcelona around 11 at night after a long bus ride from Madrid. Turned out they overbooked and had no room for me, even though I had a confirmed reservation. The guy at the front desk just shrugged and said sorry. I was stuck with my big backpack on a dark street with no clue what to do. I ended up using the Hostelworld app on my phone to find a place 15 minutes away that still had beds for 18 euros. It was a dodgy walk with my luggage through some sketchy alleys, but I made it. The new place was actually quieter and had free breakfast, so it worked out OK. Has anyone else had a booking just vanish on them like that?

Honestly that's on you for not calling ahead to confirm same day. Hostels do that all the time and a quick phone call would've saved the trouble.

Yeah @kai657 that's fair but who's thinking about calling ahead when you've got a confirmed booking? I always screenshot the confirmation and call the morning of now, saved me twice in Rome and Lisbon.
