Tried that 'free city tour' in Prague and it cost me way more than expected
I joined a group in Old Town Square, and the guide said it was free but tips were welcome. After two hours, he gave a big speech about how his pay depends on us and stared everyone down. I felt so bad I gave 20 euros, which was half my food budget for the day. Has anyone else had a guide pressure them like that, and what's a better way to see a city for cheap?

Oh man, that sucks. I had a buddy who did one of those in Barcelona and it went exactly the same way. The guide took them through all these random side streets and then at the end stood by the door of a tapas place until everyone basically paid up. My friend ended up giving 15 euros just to escape the awkwardness. He said it ruined the whole vibe of the trip for him. Now I just tell people to look for the free audio tours on their phone, you can walk around at your own pace and nobody forces you to pay anything.

Ugh, that's the worst kind of scam. Those "free" tours always end with a guilt trip. Next time, just grab a map and walk around on your own.
