Vent: I blew $200 on a 'skip the line' pass for the Colosseum in Rome

I bought it online from a third party site before my trip, thinking it would save me hours. When I got there, the regular ticket line was maybe 30 minutes long, and my special pass just got me into the same security queue as everyone else. I felt like a total sucker paying four times the normal ticket price for basically nothing. Has anyone else fallen for one of these overpriced 'hacks' that turned out to be a total scam?

Clark's point about buying peace of mind is fair, but I just don't buy it for something like this. Paying four times the price for a maybe shorter line feels like getting played by fear. Those sites are selling a solution to a problem they make sound way worse than it is. In my experience, a little patience in a regular queue is better than feeling ripped off all day. The real hack is just showing up early or at a weird time.

Ouch, that's a rough one. Those third party sites are really good at making you feel like you need their pass to avoid a nightmare wait. I actually see it as paying for peace of mind before the trip, even if the line ends up being short. You bought the certainty you wouldn't waste a vacation day in a huge queue, which has its own value. Was the rest of the visit worth it despite the extra cost?
