Warning: I spent $300 on a 'must have' travel guidebook set for Europe

Back in 2019, I bought a fancy three book set for a trip to Italy and France. I thought I needed the maps and restaurant tips, but everything was out of date by the time I got there. I ended up using free apps and asking locals, which worked way better. What's the biggest waste of money you've seen people spend before a trip?

My cousin bought a $200 noise cancelling headset just for a flight to London. I mean, the plane had free earplugs and her own music was fine. Maybe it's just me but that seems like overkill for a few hours of travel.

Did you try them yourself or just going off what your cousin said?

Noise cancelling headphones are a game changer for long flights though. They really help with the constant engine noise and make it easier to sleep. I'd say that's money well spent for a better trip.
