Finally gave up on the fancy coffee shop runs after my bank app showed I spent $87 there last month.
I switched to a $12 French press and a bag of local beans, so has anyone found a good way to keep the grounds from clogging the sink?

Just dump the grounds into your trash or compost bin first... every single time. The sink drain can't handle that much solid stuff even with a garbage disposal. I learned the hard way after a plumber told me the grounds mix with grease and turn into a concrete-like clog further down the pipe. Now I just tap the press over the kitchen trash can before I rinse it, and it's never been a problem since.

Wait, really? I've been putting coffee grounds down my disposal for years without any trouble! My plumber actually said it helps clean the pipes by scrubbing away grease. Maybe it depends on your pipes or how much grease you put down there. I just run a lot of cold water with it and it's always been fine for me.

My old apartment had cast iron pipes and coffee grounds never caused issues, just like gibson.robert said. I ran the disposal with cold water for a full minute after and it was always clear. The plumber who snaked my neighbor's line said the real problem is people pouring grease down first.
