Heard a guy at the coffee shop say he saved $400 by swapping his car insurance every 6 months

I literally just switched my policy this morning (went with a local broker instead of the big name) and my new rate dropped by $85 a month, how often do you guys shop around for stuff like home or auto insurance?

Read on Reddit that people who don't switch lose like $500 a year on average.

Knew a buddy who once bragged about spending a whole weekend comparing rates and his wife was like "you saved 30 bucks and lost two days of your life congrats" haha... but yeah @elizabethwhite is right. I was one of those people paying $1200 a year too long for car insurance because I just let it auto renew. My sister finally screamed at me about it and I switched to some regional company and saved almost $400 a year. Now I try to check at least once a year even though I hate phone calls and forms. The whole process makes me feel like a broke college kid calling my mom for help but hey my wallet is happier.
