My $150 coupon stacking scheme at Home Depot backfired spectacularly

I was standing in the lumber aisle at 8 PM trying to combine a 10% off coupon with a store credit and a price match on treated 2x4s, but the self-checkout machine froze twice and the manager had to come reset it, leaving me holding a receipt that saved me exactly $2.17 after 30 minutes of hassle, has anyone else wasted an evening trying to squeeze a few bucks out of a hardware store?

Is it just me or does it feel like every time you try to game the system, it ends up being way more work than it's worth? I've noticed this pattern where we spend more mental energy trying to save a couple bucks than we'd ever actually get back.

Read a study recently that said people actually lose out on like 10-20% of their time and energy just trying to beat the system on small stuff. It's wild because we get so caught up in saving that quick buck we don't stop to think if it's even worth the headache. Tbh I've caught myself more than once driving across town to save $3 on something, burning gas the whole way. Honestly the best hack might just be accepting you're gonna pay full price sometimes and moving on with your life.
