My envelope method fails, digital sinking funds actually worked in Portland

Ngl, I tried the cash envelope thing for 6 months and kept messing it up. Then I set up separate savings buckets at my credit union for car repairs, vet stuff, and gifts. The key is auto-transferring $75 every payday before I can touch it. Anyone else find that digital buckets beat cash for tracking?

Ha! Cash envelopes only work if you actually remember to carry them AND keep the receipts straight. I always ended up with $40 in a "groceries" envelope that I spent on tacos at 2am. Digital buckets are basically adulting with training wheels, but who cares if it works? Auto-transfer before you even see the money is the only way I don't blow it on dumb stuff like a new bike light I didn't need. Honestly, the envelope system feels like something your grandma swore by, but she also paid for everything with checks. You do you, but I'm not going back to fumbling with paper when my bank app does the math for me.
