Overheard a couple at the grocery store talking about their 'no spend weekend'

I was in line at the store and the people in front of me were planning a weekend with no money spent at all. They were excited about using up pantry food and finding free stuff to do. It made me think about how I always plan to spend less, but never plan to spend zero. I tried it last Saturday and it was fun, like a little game. Has anyone else done a full no spend day or weekend and have ideas for it?

That sounds like a fun challenge for some people, but honestly it feels a bit forced to me. Planning to spend zero can add stress, like you're just waiting for the weekend to be over. I'd rather just make normal low-cost plans without the pressure of a total ban. Sometimes a cheap coffee out is part of a good Saturday, you know?

Totally get that, the zero spend rule can turn fun into homework. My friend tried a no-spend month and ended up buying a hundred dollar plant on day thirty-one (she cracked, bad). The pressure just made her want things more. A cheap coffee out is a small joy, not a budget wreck. Banning it completely takes the nice part out of a simple day off.
