Overheard a guy at the coffee shop lecturing his friend about coffee budgets
I was sitting near two men the other day at a local shop here in Portland. One was saying he spends about $80 a month on coffee between beans and cups, and his friend said that sounded wasteful. But the guy calmly pulled out a spreadsheet on his phone and showed how his homemade pour-over setup cost him maybe $0.45 per cup versus $3.50 at a shop. He then pointed out he saves nearly $100 a month just by brewing at home, and uses that extra cash for his hiking trips. I never thought to track it that way, but now I'm tempted to run my own numbers on my morning espresso habit. Has anyone else crunched the math on their daily coffee costs and found a big difference?

Dude crunched coffee costs on a spreadsheet? That’s next-level budgeting.

$4.75 a day on lattes was my wake up call, @kim_martin. I did the same thing last year and nearly fell out of my chair when I saw the yearly total. It’s basically a small car payment, but for caffeine. My spreadsheet also had a separate tab for bagels, so I’m definitely not one to judge.
