Pro tip: watching my grocery total stay under $75 for 6 weeks straight, but is the store brand swap worth it?
I started tracking every grocery run in a little notebook back in April and was floored when my total hit $68 three weeks in a row at the Kroger on 5th. The trick was swapping name brand cereal, pasta, and frozen veggies for store brand, which saved me about $22 a week. My wife says the store brand coffee tastes like wet cardboard and she refuses to drink it. So now I am stuck between saving $40 a month or keeping peace in the house. Has anyone else found a middle ground, like one or two name brands you just will not give up?
Totally get this struggle, man. My wife pulled the same thing with coffee and I caved on that one because honestly nothing kills the morning mood faster than bad coffee. We do store brand for cereal, pasta, and most frozen stuff but I still buy the real Cheez-Its and her one kind of coffee. Turns out saving like $35 instead of $45 a month and keeping her happy is way better than winning some grocery argument. Pick your two battles and let the rest go, that middle ground is real.
