Rant: I was tracking my coffee spending for a month and the numbers looked great

Then my partner pointed out I was only logging the bags I bought, not the three daily trips to the cafe. That was a solid $180 a month I was just ignoring. Anyone else have a 'blind spot' expense they forgot to budget for?

Wait, did you think about why you were only tracking the bags and not the cafe trips? Like was it an honest mistake, or did you kind of not want to see that number because you knew it would be bad? I do that with food delivery apps, I'll track groceries but ignore the takeout because it's embarrassing.

Spot on about ignoring the embarrassing numbers. I see this all the time with clients tracking steps but not the afternoon soda, or logging gym visits but not the long sit watching TV. We pick the easy wins to feel good and hide the hard truths in plain sight. It's a basic human trick to protect our feelings, but it keeps us stuck. Real change only starts when we have the guts to write down the whole story, not just the pretty parts.
