Saw a food bank pantry setup that made my coupon haul look silly

I stopped by the community pantry in Tucson last Saturday to drop off a bag and ended up watching them organize a whole month of donations with a simple first-in-first-out shelf system. Their total cost to feed 40 families came to about $1.80 per person, which is way better than my usual $12 per meal even with extreme couponing. Is the real budget win about spending less on your own groceries, or about making every dollar go further for everyone in the neighborhood?
