That time my grocery budget got wrecked by a $3 mistake I kept making
I kept buying bulk onions thinking I was saving money, but they'd go bad before I could use half the bag. Took me like 6 months to realize I was tossing $12 a month into the trash by not buying just the loose ones. Finally switched to buying 2 loose onions at a time and now my produce waste is basically zero. Anyone else deal with bulk buying backfiring on your budget?

Honestly I used to be one of those people who swore by bulk buying everything. But your post finally got me to do the math on my own onions and yeah, I was throwing away like half of them too. Switched to loose ones last month and my fridge smells way less like old onion skin now.

Oh yeah, @the_robin that onion smell is the worst. I used to buy the big bags too and it took me way too long to figure out the same thing. Now I just grab two or three loose ones at a time and they actually get used up before they go bad. I also started storing them in a cool dark cabinet instead of the fridge and they last a lot longer that way, just keep them away from potatoes or they'll both spoil faster.
