The day my freezer broke and I lost $200 worth of meal prep
It was about 6 months ago, I had just finished a huge Sunday batch cooking session. Like 8 containers of chili, some frozen burritos, bags of chopped veggies. All carefully portioned out to save money on lunches. Monday morning I open the freezer and it's all lukewarm. The seal had gone bad overnight. I stood there for a minute just staring. Then I threw it all out and ordered pizza. Now I check that seal every month with the dollar bill trick. Anyone else had a big meal prep loss like that?

That ice cube trick @hugo_craig mentioned is smart, I read it on a budget blog last week and started doing it myself.

It sucks when you put that much work into meal prep and watch it go down the drain. I've had it happen with a slow freezer leak before and you're right that dollar bill test is the only way to catch a failing seal before it costs you. I'd add that keeping a bag of ice cubes in there can also tip you off if they start looking smaller than normal.
