Unpopular opinion: people brag about their grocery haul total but never count the gas to hit 4 stores
Drove 22 miles between three stores in Charlotte to save $9 and burned more than that in gas, which I know because I finally did the math in a spreadsheet. Does anyone actually track driving cost per trip, or am I the only one who was fooling myself?
Check your tire pressure before you even start that spreadsheet. I did the same math in Raleigh and found out my tires were 8 pounds low, which was costing me about 3 mpg. Fixing that saved more per trip than the coupon hunting ever did. So yeah, track the gas, but track your car's actual condition too, because a bad alignment will eat any savings faster than the drive itself.
