Warning: my 9 year old asked why we do the jar thing, and her follow up question wrecked me
My daughter saw me drop our last $7 in ones into the grocery jar on the counter Sunday night and asked why we do that instead of just using the card. I said the jar is money we already said yes to, and the card is money we say yes to later. She sat there a second and then asked if the jar was full of all the times I said no to stuff, and honestly, yeah, kind of. It hit different because she was right, the jar is just a stack of small nos, and I had never once thought of it that way. Anyone else explain their budget to a kid and get hit with a question that made them see it new?
