Appreciation post: That $15 scoring tool from Michael's saved my bujo spine from cracking
I spent $15 on a bone folder from Michael's and it stopped my journal spreads from tearing along the middle crease, has anyone else found cheap tools that actually make a difference?

A plain old letter opener works just as well if you run the dull edge down the crease before you start working on a new spread. Also try clamping your journal shut with rubber bands overnight after you crease it, really helps set that fold without damaging the spine...

Buddy of mine tried that rubber band trick. Left his journal clamped for two days. Came back and the cover had this permanent dent in it from the band. Looked like a weird scar on the leather. He still uses it but says it bugs him every time he sees it. Guess you gotta be real careful with the pressure.
