My ink exploded right after I finished a two page spread

I was at my desk in my apartment last night, putting the final touches on a weekly layout I'd spent 45 minutes on, and then my fountain pen just burped a glob of black ink right in the middle. Has anyone else had a pen totally betray them like this or did I just get a bunk batch?

That thing about air bubbles makes SO much sense actually. I remember reading somewhere that fountain pens can do that if you leave them sitting nib up for too long, or if you're writing really fast and the ink flow can't keep up. The air pocket just builds up and then WHOOSH, all at once. Total betrayal is the right word for it. I had a similar thing happen with a sketch I was doing for a client once, and I nearly threw the pen across the room. These pens have their own little moods I swear.

A buddy of mine had this happen with a vintage pen at a cafe. He ended up with a Jackson Pollock all over his table and his notes. It's not a bunk batch thing, more like a "pent-up air bubble in the feed" thing that decides to let loose.
