Old habit of sketching first got thrown out after my desk setup fell apart
I used to always do a quick pencil layout in my notebook before committing to a weekly spread, like 5 minutes max. But last Tuesday I skipped it because I was rushing to catch a bus near the Pike Place Market, and the whole thing came out crooked with headings overlapping. Anyone else ditch their planning step just once and instantly regret it, or am I the only one who needs that dumb little sketch?

Treated it like a habit I had to rebuild, so I taped a blank page to my monitor as a reminder and set a timer for 5 minutes every Sunday morning. It felt stupid at first, but after two weeks I was back to sketching without thinking. The crooked spread actually taught me that the sketch isnt about being neat, its about locking in the layout before ink touches paper. Now I even do a tiny thumbnail on sticky notes when Im traveling, just to keep that muscle alive.
