The "just wing it" advice from a Reddit stranger actually improved my spreads
Someone in this sub told me to stop planning my weekly layout down to the last detail, just pick a theme and go with whatever happens. I thought that was terrible advice because I NEED structure, been using the same grid since March 2022. Last month I tried it anyway, no ruler, no washi tape, just a pen and some messy ideas. My Tuesday spread ended up being my favorite thing I've made all year, it had this uneven box I would've erased before. Now I leave one day a week unplanned on purpose, but I still do the rest with my ruler. Has anyone else loosened up their process after fighting it for a while?

Wing it once and suddenly everyone acts like rulers are a trap. Your Tuesday spread is a fluke, not a breakthrough. I tried the same thing after reading a post like this, ended up with a Thursday page so crooked I had to tear it out and start over with my grid. The uneven box you love now will drive you crazy in three weeks when you notice it every time you flip past. Structure isnt the enemy, its the reason your spreads look consistent and finished. If you want to doodle, keep a scratch pad like the rest of us instead of corrupting your system.
