That old-school butcher who told me to rest my ribeyes bone-side down for 10 minutes before slicing...
I was skeptical at first, but after 8 years of doing it the other way, trying it on a Saturday rush 2 months ago totally changed the tenderness of my steaks, has anyone else gotten weird specific advice like that from a veteran that actually worked?

Are you seriously telling me you never even tried it once in 8 years just to see what would happen? I get being loyal to your method but that's a whole lot of time to pass up on potentially better steak. To me, trying something new once is low risk compared to missing out for nearly a decade.
