Floating shelves are popping up in all my kitchen remodels
Recently, more homeowners in my area are skipping upper cabinets for floating shelves. I get a cleaner look by using a hidden metal bracket and lots of wood glue in the joints. How do you all deal with making sure these shelves can hold heavy dishes without sagging?

Oh man, floating shelves had me worried too when I did my kitchen! I used regular pine boards at first and they started to droop after a few months with just some bowls on them. Switched to oak, which is way harder, and doubled up the hidden brackets so each shelf has two instead of one. Sinking those bracket screws deep into the wall studs is what really made the difference for holding my cast iron pans.

Yikes, my friend's cheap shelf crumbled like @gavin_thomas52 warned!
