My buddy swore up and down that soft close was a gimmick for people who slam cabinets too hard anyway. Then his wife redid their kitchen last spring and the contractor talked them into soft close on all the uppers. About a week later he called me just to say he was wrong. He said the difference hits you at 6 in the morning when you are half awake making coffee and you don't hear a single cabinet bang shut. The part that got him was how cheap it ended up being once they were already in there doing the work. Now he notices it at other people's houses and it drives him nuts when a door just claps shut. Funny how a small thing you never cared about becomes something you can't live without.
