Serious question, what's your take on switching from a 1/2-inch to a 3/4-inch shank on your router?

I mean, I swapped mine out about two weeks ago for a big built-in project. The difference in vibration and chatter on the long dados was huge, maybe it's just me but it felt way more solid. Anyone else made that jump and noticed a big change?

Funny you mention that, my neighbor just burned out his router motor trying to force a big bit with the smaller collet.

My old Bosch router had a 1/2 inch shank for years and I never thought much about it. Then I got a big Whiteside panel raising bit that only came in 3/4. The router just sits in the table so much quieter now, like it's not fighting itself. It really does cut down on that weird humming sound on wide cuts. I won't go back for any serious joinery work.
