That week I had 3 cabinet doors delaminate and learned a new glue trick
Last month I was building a set of maple kitchen cabinets for a client in Salem. Everything was going fine until I glued up the doors. Three of them delaminated right at the panel joint after 48 hours. I was ready to scrap them. My buddy who does commercial millwork told me to try Titebond III instead of the II I had been using for years, but also to rough up the MDF cores with 80 grit before gluing. I had been skipping that step for way too long. Re-did them and they held solid. Anyone else run into delamination issues with certain wood combinations?

@rosed32 might be onto something; I've heard heat treating the MDF beforehand helps too.

Oh man, that 80 grit trick is something I learned the hard way too after a batch of walnut doors blew apart on me a few years back. Was using Titebond II and just slapping it on like usual, never thinking about the MDF cores needing that rough-up. Ended up spending a whole weekend scraping glue blobs and re-clamping everything while my shop smelled like a wet forest. Funny how skipping one small step can turn a nice project into a real headache.
