TIL my shop has gone through 500 board feet of maple this quarter.
That's double what we used last year, and it's all for face frames on these new built-in projects. Anyone else seeing a big jump in material use for a specific component?

Honestly that number makes my head spin, and I totally get what @barnes.mary is saying. Tbh my own scrap bin is basically a maple forest at this point from all the face frame offcuts. Feels like every client right now wants that built-in look, no matter the cost in materials. Guess we're all just feeding the same trend.

500 board feet just for face frames?

If anything @barnes.mary that sounds about right for the kind of work that's actually worth doing. People who cry over 500 bd ft for face frames are the same ones charging dirt cheap prices and wondering why they can't make a living. Buy more lumber, charge more, and stop worrying about scrap piles.
