Told a new guy to use pocket screws for face frames... buddy proved me dead wrong

Got this young helper last month who insisted on using dowels and glue for every face frame joint. Told him pocket screws were faster and just as strong. He sent me a picture of a frame he made that held up a 200 pound countertop mock-up without a single screw. Now I'm sitting here rethinking my whole approach to face frames. Anyone else ever get shown up by a junior guy with a better method?

That dowel method must have taken some serious precision to pull off without any racking. Makes you wonder what other old tricks we've been overlooking in favor of speed.
