Vent: dropped $180 on a dovetail jig before checking if my stock was even square
Last month I grabbed a used dovetail jig off a guy in Mesa for $180, thinking it would speed up a set of drawers for a bathroom vanity. Spent a full day building a test box and every joint came out gappy, and it turned out my stock was off square by almost 1/8 inch from a dull planer blade. Fixed the blade, tried the jig again, and the joints were still loose because the jig itself was worn out at the guide bushing. I should have spent that $180 on a good square and a new blade first. Anyone got a jig they actually trust, or should I just cut these by hand?
