Walked into a custom shop last week and saw a domino joiner sitting in the corner gathering dust

Bet it's collecting dust for a reason though... most jobs I've seen people use them for could've been done with a cheap doweling jig and some glue. The domino is just overpriced for what it does, plain and simple.

Exactly, "overpriced is right" - I rented one once and the hype wore off after the first joint.

Tried to use one once and spent more time digging domino dust out of my shirt than actually cutting joints.
