A utility locator's one question changed how I run every drop

Guy from the gas company asked why I was routing around a bush instead of through it, turns out I'd been adding 30 feet of cable to every house in that neighborhood for the last 5 years because I never thought to ask about the easement line, anyone else ever had a simple question flip their whole approach?

Honestly that's one of those things that seems so obvious once someone points it out. Not to be that person, but the bush was likely on the utility easement anyway, so going around it was probably the smart move for access, not the dumb one. The real lesson is that you were working harder, not smarter, and that's on the guy who never told you the line was there in the first place. Either way, it's wild how we get stuck in a habit and never question it until a stranger says one thing. You'll probably never look at a shrub the same way again.
