Bought a $200 cable toner that couldn't find a wire 3 feet away
Grabbed a top rated Klein toner off Amazon because my old one died. Spent 2 hours chasing a dead signal on a run that was literally in plain sight. Anyone else had a modern toner just crap out on them?

Yeah, same thing happened with my Klein. Tried all the usual stuff, fresh batteries, different cables. Turned out the tip was just dead out of the box. If you've got a spare probe tip lying around, try swapping that first.

Whoa, hold up. Honestly, I gotta push back a little here, @margaret234. Ngl, I've had the opposite experience with my Klein stuff - it's usually the board connection or a bad ground wire that screws things up, not the tip itself. Tbh, swapping tips is a good first check, but don't bet the farm on it being dead out of the box.
