Bought a $40 cable toner and it saved me 3 hours on a nasty job

I finally caved and grabbed a cheap toner from the supply house after fighting with a dead line in a crawlspace all morning. The thing beeped and lit up the exact drop I needed, which beat tracing every splitter in that mess of a basement. Cost me like $40 and honestly it paid off on the first use, my buddy laughed at me for not getting one sooner. But then the battery died mid-job and I had no backup, so I was back to the old trial and error method for the last run. Anyone else keep a spare toner in the truck or do you just trust the one unit to hold up?

Wait, you didn't have a second one just sitting in the bag? Honestly, I used to think carrying two toners was overkill too, like who needs a backup for something that simple. But after my main unit crapped out on a Friday afternoon job, I changed my tune real quick. Now I keep a little cheap one in the glovebox and the good one in my main tool bag, never had to touch the spare yet but man it's peace of mind. Tbh the battery dying is the worst part of those things, they eat through 9 volts like crazy. So yeah, you're not wrong to feel burned, I'd grab a second one next time you're at the supply house, even a junk brand is better than nothing.
