Guy in Phoenix asked me to run his coax through the AC vent and I still think about it
So about 5 months back I get this work order for a basic internet install in a condo over off Camelback, older dude, super nice at first. I'm scoping the place for a clean run and he points at the ceiling and goes, just drop it through the AC vent, it'll be fine. I tried to explain that the coax would be sitting right on the duct, rubbing every time the air kicks on, and heat plus vibration eats cable over time. He cuts me off and says the last guy did it that way and it worked great for 6 years. I ended up doing the run right along the baseboard anyway because I wasn't putting my name on a vent job, and he watched me the whole time like I was slow. Two weeks later he calls the shop mad because his speeds were dropping during the day, and guess what, the old vent run was the problem, not my line. I pulled his old cable out and the jacket was worn down to bare copper right where it sat on the duct edge. Has anyone else had a customer push back hard on placement and then get proven right by the failure anyway? Curious how you all handle it when they insist on the shortcut.
The "it worked great for 6 years" line is the same one every guy uses right before you find the thing held together with tape and hope. People love a shortcut until it stops working, then suddenly it's your fault. Same energy as the guy at my gym who swears his bad form is fine because his back hasn't hurt yet.
