What toner do you actually trust for new construction vs retrofit jobs?

Yeah but to be fair, a toner isn't really meant to find live wires anyway, it's for tracing tone on dead lines. You probably needed a non-contact voltage tester for that.

Actually toners can find live wires too, just gotta use the right mode.

Plain tone probe worked fine for me on live wires.
