My old lead in Bakersfield told me to stop rushing coax fittings, and it took getting a callback on a 3-story house to get it
I was at a job in Bakersfield last Tuesday and spent 40 minutes redoing 6 compression fittings on a 3-story house because the signal was dropping on the top floor. My old lead tech told me something when I first started that I blew off at the time: he said "the fitting is 80 percent of the job, the cable is the easy part." I always figured that was just old guy talk, but after chasing a ghost signal for an hour and a half I'm starting to think he was right. Now I'm second guessing whether I should slow down on every fitting or if it was just one bad batch of connectors. Any of you guys time yourself on fittings, or do you just go by feel after a while?
