Pro tip: an old lady in Tacoma showed me why you should always check the attic before drilling
She pointed at her dusty photo albums stacked right under the ceiling joist and said, 'My memories are up there, son, so please be careful,' which made me realize our work cuts through people's lives, not just their drywall.

Man, that hits home. I was running cable in a crawlspace last year and found a whole box of old love letters tied with ribbon. Felt like I was holding someone's whole past in my dirty hands. You really do forget what people keep tucked away in those spaces.

Yeah, "holding someone's whole past" is exactly it. I found a kid's hidden toy stash once and felt the same way, like @the_charles said, some things just need to stay where they are.

Found a shoebox of war medals behind some insulation in a Denver bungalow. I just slid them back exactly where they were and marked the spot with a piece of blue tape so the next guy would see it. Some things just need to stay put.
