Question about those cheap coax strippers from the truck stop

I bought a pair for $8 thinking I'd save a trip, but they mangled the shielding on three lines before I tossed them and cost me an extra 45 minutes on a job in Tempe.

Eight bucks? I saw those same ones for five at a gas station off the 10. They look like they were made out of old soda cans. You got off easy only losing 45 minutes.

Tell them to give those strippers another chance. Those cheap tools actually work fine if you take your time and don't try to rush through the job like you're on a timer. Most of the mangling comes from forcing the tool or using the wrong blade depth setting, not the tool itself. I've used those same truck stop strippers on dozens of cable runs in Phoenix and never had a problem once I figured out the right technique. If you wreck three lines in a row, the problem is likely the operator, not the tool.
