Rant: I spent $250 on a fancy ladder and it broke in 3 months

Bought one of those lightweight telescoping ladders thinking it would save my back. On the third job in a residential neighborhood, a rung just gave out under me. Has anyone else had bad luck with the telescoping ones or did I just get a dud?

Werner ladders never let me down, telescoping ones are junk.

You're spot on about Werner ladders, especially the aluminum ones (they just feel solid compared to the cheap stuff). I had a telescoping ladder a few years back that collapsed on me while I was only about 6 feet up - scary moment, honestly. The locking mechanisms on those things get gritty and start slipping after a season or two of use. With a good old-fashioned Werner extension ladder, you can feel the rung locks engage when you set it, no guesswork. Plus, those telescoping ones are a nightmare if you get a finger pinched while closing them, I've seen guys lose skin that way.
