Spent 2 years stripping coax wrong before a senior guy corrected me
I always used my utility knife to score the jacket and then just pulled it off. Sometimes it would nick the braid or even the dielectric. Last month an old timer watched me do it and handed me a proper coax stripping tool. Took me 10 seconds to strip a clean end after that. Anyone else hold onto bad habits because nobody told you different?

Nah, I actually think the knife method works fine if you're careful.

Yeah I see what you mean park.riley but here's the thing with that knife method stuff. It's like how people always say they can drive fine after a few beers because they're careful. Being careful doesn't change the fact that the tool or situation is sketchy. I've seen guys in the bar try to open bottles with lighters and say the same thing until one of them shatters glass everywhere. People just get comfortable with bad habits because it works 90 percent of the time until that one time it doesn't. Same energy as folks who don't wear seatbelts on short trips because they're just going down the street. You can be careful all you want but accidents don't care about your caution.
