Took me 5 years to stop hating fiber crimp connectors

I used to refuse to use the crimp-on fiber connectors. Thought they were garbage after two bad jobs in 2019 on the south side of Denver. Then I got a cheap micron inspection scope last spring and saw my problem was the cleave, not the connector. Polished my cleave technique and now I use them on residential drops all the time. Anyone else flip on a tool they swore off early in their career?

You mentioned the cleave was your problem, and that's spot on. But I gotta gently push back on calling the connector "crimped." The ones we use in residential are actually cam or cleave type connectors, the fiber gets inserted and the jacket is crimped, sure, but the glass itself is just held in place by the ceramic ferrule. Real crimp connectors for fiber are mostly for temporary or emergency stuff. Either way, glad you gave them another shot. A good scope changes everything, I still check every single one before I leave a job.
