Warning: The crawl space under a house in Salem taught me a new trick
Last month I was on a job in Salem, Oregon, and had to run a line under a really old house. The path was full of old pipes and I only had about 4 inches of clearance. I ended up taping my fish stick to a piece of flexible conduit to get it to bend just right around a corner. Anyone else have a go-to method for super tight spaces like that?

Saw a video where a guy used a length of weed trimmer line with a hook bent into the end. He heated it up to make it hold the shape, then just fed it through like a super thin, stiff snake.

That trick with the weed trimmer line is pretty clever.

I mean, maybe it's just me, but I feel like that trick is more trouble than it's worth. Heating up plastic line and bending a hook into it sounds like a good way to melt it to your workbench or burn your fingers before you even start. Plus, how long does that hook even hold its shape before it goes soft again? Seems like you'd be better off just using a proper fish tape or even a stiff piece of wire you can grab for a buck. I get that it's a clever idea, but idk, sometimes the simple stuff works better than trying to reinvent the wheel with trimmer line.
