Wasted 3 hours on a cheap toner that kept giving false readings
Picked up a $15 toner from a flea market last week thinking it would save me some cash, but it kept beeping on every wire in the wall and I couldn't trace a single line. After ripping open two drywall patches for nothing I finally used my coworker's Fluke and found the right cable in 5 minutes. Anyone else ever get burned by a bargain tool that just made the job worse?

Yeah I feel your pain man, I grabbed a cheapy off Amazon once and it lit up so much I might as well been using a flashlight. Finally gave in and got a Klein tester, never looked back since.

Dude that reminds me of my buddy Mike. He bought this no-name tester off some sketchy website and it literally started smoking on his first job. He was swapping out an outlet and the whole thing just melted in his hand. Scared him so bad he threw it in the trash right there and drove straight to Home Depot. Now he won't touch anything that isn't Fluke or Klein.
