A customer's comment about my lens cleaning made me rethink my whole process
A regular brought in a vintage 50mm f/1.4 last week and pointed out a faint haze I'd missed, saying 'you're just moving the dust around if you don't change the cloth more.' I switched to using a fresh microfiber square for each element and the difference is huge. How often do you guys actually swap out your cleaning cloths?

Oh man, that hits home. I was doing the same thing for ages, just using the same cloth over and over. I figured it was fine as long as it looked clean. Then I started noticing these tiny, hair-like scratches on a couple of my own lenses. Nothing deep, but enough to catch the light. Switched to a fresh cloth every time and it was like night and day. The glass just looks clearer now. That customer was totally right.

Yeah, "night and day" is right. It's funny how we get stuck in these little ruts and just assume something's fine without ever really testing it. @elizabethwhite I bet you've noticed the same thing with like, scrubbing dishes with a beat up sponge or using the same dull knife over and over. Once you switch to a fresh one, you realize how much harder you were making things for yourself. It's like my brain just has this default mode of "if it kind of works, keep doing it" until something forces me to change. Do you ever catch yourself doing that with other stuff around the house?

Right? It's crazy how something so small makes a difference. I was guilty of that too.
