After months of frustration, I finally sorted out my film advance repair process

I used to dread working on film advance mechanisms because the springs would always fly out. It took me forever to get them back in place without losing parts. But I watched an old repair video and learned a trick with tweezers and masking tape. Now I can do it in half the time, and it's such a relief.

Tweezers and masking tape sound good in theory but I've still had springs slip out with that method. I actually find a small flat head screwdriver works better to hook the spring into place before you close things up. The key is keeping light pressure so it can't jump away. What kind of camera are you working on?

Honestly, I've started putting the whole assembly inside a clear plastic bag. You get your hands in there with the tools, but if the spring flies, it just hits the bag and drops. Saved me so much crawling around on the floor. A gallon freezer bag is perfect for most camera bodies.

My attempts just launch springs into orbit.
