An old Minolta guy told me to stop cleaning sensors dry, he was right and now I owe him a beer

About 2 years ago I had this retired repair guy come into my shop in Columbus, Ohio. He watched me swab a sensor on a Sony A7III and just shook his head. He said I was dragging grit across the glass and that I needed to use a wet pass first, always, no exceptions. I thought he was being old school and stubborn, so I kept doing it my way for like 6 more months. Then I had a Nikon D850 come in with a weird streak that wouldn't budge no matter how many dry swabs I did. I finally tried his method with a fresh sensor brush and some Eclipse fluid, and that streak vanished in one pass. I've done maybe 40 wet cleanings since then and not a single scratched sensor or stubborn mark. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call from a crusty old timer that turned out to be the best advice you ever got?
