Bringing a wedding camera back from the dead

My cousin handed me his old film camera a week before his big day. I was sure the light meter was a lost cause after a quick look. Turns out, it just had some gunk in the contacts from sitting in a drawer. Cleaned it up, and he used it to take pictures at the ceremony. Now his whole wedding party thinks I'm some kind of camera wizard.

Honestly, isn't calling that a wizard fix a bit much? Cleaning some gunk off contacts is pretty basic stuff for any old camera. Real camera repair gets into fixing shutter timings or replacing light seals, not just a simple clean.

Oh totally! I had a similar thing with my old Minolta where the film advance was sticking. Turns out it was just some hardened grease on one gear, a five minute clean with rubbing alcohol. Felt silly calling it a "repair" when it was basically maintenance.
