I was reading an old repair manual for a 1970s Nikon F2 and found out they used a specific type of asbestos in the mirror damper foam. Found it in a PDF from a camera museum archive.

Probably not a big deal unless you're grinding up the foam and snorting it lol.

My cousin actually tried to make a homemade foam pit in his backyard one summer. He used this weird packing material that broke down into little beads, and it got absolutely everywhere. Took weeks to clean up, and his dog was sneezing white bits for a month. Makes you think about what's actually in that stuff.

Wait wait wait, does that stuff actually turn into dust if you grind it? I always thought those beads were solid little balls. That's nasty though, can't imagine vacuuming that up for weeks.
