I was sure using a $20 ultrasonic cleaner on lens elements was a bad idea... until I saw the results on a 1970s Nikkor.

My old 50mm f/1.8 had haze I couldn't shift with a cloth. I ran it through three cycles in a basic cleaner with distilled water and a drop of dish soap. The glass came out looking new, no marks at all. I was shocked it worked that well. @hollyramirez, your point about cheap ones being okay is right, at least for simple cleaning jobs like this. You just have to be really careful with the lens coating.

Whoa, I read that the cheap ones can actually work fine for old glass. Might have to try it.
